Dermapen™ is a safe, highly effective technique used to treat patients with a variety of skin conditions and improve skin tightening. It is excellent for scar repair, particularly those caused by acne, trauma, surgery or burns. It can also help with stretch marks, hyper-pigmentation, sun-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles. Dermapen™ is an excellent way to restore the skin’s natural scaffolding, boosting skin elasticity and lift.
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied one hour before to the areas that are to be treated. Miss Chantrey uses the Dermapen™ to create tiny punctures in the skin. This action activates the skin’s fibroblasts cells, which, in turn, stimulates collagen production. The aim is to encourage repair and rejuvenation of the skin for a fresher and smoother complexion, whilst dramatically reducing the appearance of scars and imperfections.
The concept of Dermapen™ is the same as Dermaroller™, however the revolution in skin-needling technology means the Dermapen™ has several advantages. Treatment with Dermapen™ is quicker and less painful, allowing for a much faster recovery time. An adjustable needle depth and speed allows Miss Chantrey to tailor the treatment to each individual patient by focussing on specific scars, areas of pigmentation, or lines and wrinkles, for example. The Dermapen™ is easy to manoeuvre around facial contours, such as across the top lip, on the sides of the nose and under the eyes, ultimately producing a more consistent and even result.
Patients undergoing this procedure can expect redness of the treated areas for approximately 24 hours afterwards. To get the optimum results, a course of 3 to 4 sessions, 6 weeks apart, is recommended. The time left between sessions allows the skin cells to grow, boosts blood supply to the treated areas and maximises collagen production for a natural and more youthful look. The majority of patients are suitable for this treatment, including darker skin types, who often are not suitable for deeper chemical peels.
